BitFire Sled Test Kit

The BitFire SLED (Simple Link Evaluation Device) is a small, portable computer used to test a network's actual bandwidth.

Setup

  1. Connect to your local network via the WAN port on the SLED.
    • The SLED test kit does not require a public IP, any inbound firewall rules or port forwards.
    • BitFire devices are natively programmed for DHCP connections and require unrestricted outbound access.
    • If only a static IP set-up is available, or if you require the MAC address of the device, please contact our BitFire NOC team for additional instructions.
  1. Connect power via the power adapter into the side of the unit
  1. Call the BitFire NOC team once the SLED unit has been connected to the network with the SLED Server ID ready.
    • Our 24/7 BitFire NOC team can be reached at 877-BITFIRE (877-356-3232) or at noc@bitfire.tv
    • The BitFire support team will proceed with performing the test and will send a follow-up report with the results.

Objective

  • Once connected, a holistic test of the internet connection will be performed utilizing the BitFire Network transport technology.
  • The system will test both the quality and the available bandwidth of the connection.
    • Measurements include Latency, round trip time, as well as the Loss profile we encounter.
  • The firewall requirements of our SLED are identical to what our servers require for transmission.
    • After the test, we will know if the connection will support the requested configuration.
    • If the connection is not adequate, BitFire can work with the relevant parties in an effort to identify the root cause and implement any changes to the Local network configuration.
  • The SLED test results will include TCP, upload/download speeds, BitFire Transmit (TX) and Receive (RX) speeds and a summary analysis of the connection for the requested usage.
