SRT Endpoints & SRT Transcoding Destinations
Inferno allows you to create both SRT Listener and Caller endpoints for secure, low-latency IP video contribution or distribution via SRT.
To create an SRT endpoint:
- Go to the Resources page
- Click the red and white plus icon in the top-right corner
- Select SRT Endpoint
This will open the SRT configuration window. The available fields will adjust depending on whether you're building a Listener or Caller endpoint.
Listener Mode
Use Listener mode when Inferno should wait for incoming connections.
- Name: Choose a name for your SRT endpoint.
- Region: Select the AWS region to deploy your SRT endpoint in.
- Select Encryption: AES 128 (default) or AES 256
- Enter your Passphrase for stream decryption (this can be left blank if desired)
That’s it — once saved, your listener endpoint is ready to be added to bookings.
Caller Mode
Use Caller mode when Inferno needs to reach out to an external SRT destination.
- Name: Choose a name for your SRT endpoint.
- Region: Select the AWS region to deploy your SRT endpoint in.
- Select Encryption: AES 128 (default) or AES 256
- Enter the Address and Port of the external SRT destination
- Provide the Passphrase (this can be left blank if desired)
- Set your desired SRT Latency in milliseconds (300ms is standard)
Once configured, click the green Save icon to finalize. Your SRT endpoint will appear in the Resources list and can be assigned to any booking as a source or destination.
Booking:
- In Inferno (inferno.bitfire.tv), select the Feeds page.
- Click the red + button in the upper right corner to create a new booking.
- You’ll be met with the New Booking window, where you can select your feed source or destination to be your new SRT endpoint.
- These SRT endpoints are automatically provisioned in the cloud. If a booking is scheduled 5 or minutes from the saved booking time, the SRT will automatically spin up 5 minutes prior to the feed opening. If the addition is made in real time, the SRT will take 2-5 minutes to turn on.
SRT Transcoding Destination
SRT Transcoding Destinations allow you to deliver outbound SRT feeds using BitFire transport while adjusting bitrate, resolution, and other stream characteristics to match the requirements of a receiving system.
Use this when you need to:
- Modify frame size or bitrate before delivery
- Normalize codec settings for compatibility
- Apply specific keyframe intervals, profiles, or latency controls
- Enforce stream encryption settings
To create a new SRT Transcoding Destination:
- Navigate to the Resources page
- Click the red and white plus icon in the top-right corner
- Select SRT Transcoding Destination
This will open the transcoding configuration window.
Configuration Options
- Name: Choose a name for your SRT endpoint.
- Region: Select the AWS region to deploy your SRT endpoint in.
- Choose Mode: Listener (waits for a connection) or Caller (dials out)
- Enter a Passphrase for AES encryption (can be left blank if desired)
- Set the desired SRT Latency (in milliseconds)
Define your stream parameters:
- Video Bitrate: Enter your desired value in Kbps
- Audio Bitrate: Enter your desired value in Kbps
- Frame Size: 720p or 1080p
- FPS: Common options include 59.94
- Keyframe Interval in seconds (2 seconds is a typical default)
- Profile: Select Baseline, Main, or High depending on the compatibility of the receiving system
Once all fields are set, click the green Save icon to finalize. Your SRT Transcoding Destination will now be available within the Resources menu and can be selected as a destination when booking a feed.
